UFO Cases This Researcher deems
"Still Unresolved"

and Why

The following are some other UFO cases _some_ skeptics *think* they have solved. You will find discussions that indicate why I and others have concluded these cases still remain "unresolved." Readers are invited to make your own determination. Please feel free to let us know your thoughts by emailing me at

(10\22\2005) A thousand apologies to Fran Ridge who wrote me back in Oct 2004
concerning an UpDate to the Trindade case posted at the NICAP web-site.
Included is some very interesting material discovered by Wendy Connors. It
accidentally got lost with a flood of mail that had come in at the same time.

Unfortunately, the very excellent workup performed by
Jerome Clark (CUFOS) is no longer available there on-line.

Ooops, it's back again (UFO Evidence web-site) . God bless you Jerry . . Thanks!

and here are Clark's comments
refuting a claim there were no witnesses.

Various people (one of them, Martin J. Powell)
have proposed solutions to
the Trindade case.

Martin Shough, UK has found each of these
solutions insufficient to explain what was seen.

As fascinating as the Trindade and Brazilian cases were,
it is also quite interesting to note that two months earlier,
two military cases, Kirtland & Sebago had taken place a
mere 6 hours apart.

Florida Governor Haydon Burns
4/25/66

Here's a report that Francis Ridge (new NICAP) and Jan Aldridge (Proj. 1947) can confirm as accurate from the NICAP Journals in their possession. It concerns a sighting reported by the Governor of Florida, his entourage, and some pilots during his re-election campaign. It appeared in the NICAP May/June 1966 issue. Maybe Fran, Jan and scientists have it figured out. The sighting occurred eight days after the Ravenna, Ohio case investigated by Dr. James McDonald.

I can't believe investigators, including the Air Force, wouldn't have hypothesized a test vehicle with afterburners if that scenario could have possibly solved it for them. One has to ask oneself whether a governor, his entourage (and pilots), on the election trail in their right minds, would want to publicly discuss this unless they were truly mystified.

Any suggestions from anyone? What test vehicle would want to be seen and purposely pace this plane for 40 miles? . . . and a 40 mile mirage . . I don't think so.

Florida Governor Sights UFO

A UFO which paced the Florida chief executive's campaign plane for 40 miles over north Florida April 25 also was witnessed by a group of newsmen and officials. Governor Haydon Burns, a candidate for re-election, confirmed the sighting but declined to discuss it. This apparently was his second UFO sighting; a Miami TV station last fall reported, in a documentary, that Gov. Burns had seen a UFO.

Co-pilot Herb Bates first noticed the UFO as the Convair took off from Orlando headed for Tallahassee (state capital). To him, the object or objects appeared as two bright yellow globes side by side. At about 6000 feet altitude in the vicinity of Ocala, everyone on board had been alerted and watched the UFO pace the plane on the starboard side. Some said the two bright lights were crescent shaped, and a dimmer connecting section or column of light was visible between them. The reddish or yellow-orange lights fluctuated in brightness, but were very distinct.

After several minutes, Governor Burns ordered his pilot to turn toward the UFO. The lights quickly began a steep climb, then disappeared. At this point the Capitol bureau chief for the Tampa Tribune, Duane Bradford, said "the thought occurred to me that this UFO business was somewhat less than funny."

In addition to the newsmen on board, witnesses included the governor's executive assistant, Frank Stockton and Capt. Nathan Sharron of the State Highway Patrol.

Central Bureau Chief Bill Mansfield of the Miami Herald said the press contingent first learned about it when Governor Burns walked back into the cabin and exclaimed, "We have a UFO out there. I'm going to order the pilot to turn into it." Confirming the description of the UFO, Mansfield added, "Something was out there. Something we all saw clearly. Something that is yet to be explained."

jc 9/10/2010: Was Haydon Burns the only governor to see a UFO?
How about Jimmy Carter (who later became President) and/or Fife Symington?

Carter Sighting Details from "Above Top Secret," Nicholas Pope

To those people who accuse Jerome Clark of supporting the ETH unconditionally, the following friendly disagreement should be of interest. For many years, skeptical-believers have normally been avoiding single witness cases and looking for those with as many observers as possible.

However, in this case, with Carter's background, and with the proposed solution to the case (Venus) not really matching what Carter described, some of us have had second thoughts about it.

From my vantage point it appears _some_ skeptics
want to have it both ways;

1) If there is only one claimant, we _all_ disallow the case saying there were no other witnesses;

and

2) If there are a lot of witnesses, said skeptics will cite a study saying something to the effect that the more witnesses to a sighting, the more likely it is to be erroneous
.

In other words, the whole world better not see one at the same time or we're all misidentifying it.

Makes pretty good sense, eh what? I wonder what the correct number of witnesses is in the eyes of these individuals?

Apollo-11 UFO Incident

Aldrin's 2005 "First on the Moon" Testimony
Documentary with movie clips of an Apollo-11 UFO

9/26/05: Seemingly verified as fact by "Buzz" Aldrin within the video, an unsolved UFO seen by astronauts Neil Armstrong and "Buzz" Aldrin on their Apollo-11 flight to the moon.

(But Aldrin denies it on the Larry King show.)

Aldrin stated their booster rocket was 6000 miles away from them. They felt very certain that what they saw following their space craft was much closer than that. It was not part of the urine dump and they didn't really believe it was from their own spacecraft. Aldrin stated they did not talk about it directly over the air because of fear of ridicule* and because they thought it possible someone might call them back and stop the mission. Video or photos of a similar UFO taken on a succeeding mission were shown on the documentary several times. The documentary producers stated the UFO has not been solved to this day.

This information was acquired from the science channel. It was reported in the original debriefing. Their broadcast program "First on the Moon" contains the following liner note:

To: Aldrin, p.2

"With the help of the 'lost moon tape' and previously unreleased documents, scientists reveal how close Edward "Buzz" Aldrin and Neil Armstrong came to death during their Apollo-11 flight to the moon." (jc: The "death" part having nothing to do with UFOs)

The film contains short video clips from mission control, videos from the space craft itself and the trip in general, narrations by a number of people involved including Gene Kranz, Andrew Chaiken, Harold Loden, Dr. David Baker, quite a few by "Buzz" Aldrin himself, and film of President Nixon dealing with the dangers of the flight to the moon.

Here are clips they showed of a UFO from another flight:
Clip 1
| Clip 2 | Clip 3

Buzz Aldrin, on the Larry King show in 2007, has officially stated his own disbelief in UFOs and said the astronauts finally decided what they saw was a panel from their own ship. However, it still would be interesting to know what the object shown above actually is, and from which exact flight it was taken. It does not appear, at least to me to be what Aldrin described, on the Larry King show, as "a panel."

* jc: . . and once again clearly refuting those skeptics who refuse to admit to the existence of a "ridicule factor" regarding UFOs.

To: Aldrin, p.3

More on this case can be presently found on UFO Updates in a note by Dave Stone to the mail list. Dave's letter contains more information than I included in my first post and a bit more accurate (including some direct quotes and dialog) and also mentions that the video shown was taken on a subsequent flight.

Excellent researcher Brad Sparks is presently disagreeing with me on this because he never found anything in a huge number of documents he looked through many years ago, so I will be extremely careful before I say this is what it appears to be.

(jc - 2007 : Therefore, from what Aldrin said on that Larry King show in 2007, it appears Brad may well be right. The Science Channel's First on the Moon "documentary" seems to have misled us here regarding the event and Aldrin's perception of it, as the video clips they used made it sound as though he was still mystified concerning the event.)

Skeptic Jerry Black sponsored a new polygraph test which

Although some skeptics wish to totally ignore the lie detector testimony
offered in this case, it does exist. Statistics regarding this developing
"science" indicate that it would be next to impossible for all the people
tested to have scored as high as they did if the case was simply a hoax.
